PFLAG Topeka is a small chapter. We are interested in issues relating to LGBT persons, their families and friends, through support, education and advocacy. We meet occasionally for community events, social and educational gatherings. We have information for parents , families and friends, and for LGBT persons from the National PFLAG Organization that we can mail to your home.

PFLAG Topeka has awarded nineteen $1000 scholarships to high school graduating seniors for attendance at post secondary education. The awardees are Zack Bomberger (2012), Timothy Williams (2013), Emily Magness (2017), Shelby Wilson (2019), Adriana Cordero (2020), Xavier Noriega (2021): Justin Hawkins, Adrian Cox, Zyesha Douglas, Ella Karrer, Tiana Smith, Orion Turner, (2022): Rylee Bigley, Robin Imbeau, Angel Andrete, Kory Sutton (2023)

Also a clinic at 340 SW Boulevard, KC, KS. Email them at jaydoctg@kumc.edu. (They provide free Dr. visits, lab work, hormone therapy for 1 year for pts. 18 years or older who are underinsured.)

It is the work of Debi Jackson, member of PFLAG Kansas City and the mother of a 7 year old daughter who came out as a transgender girl when she was 4. www.trans-parenting.com. It helps you find information in one place.
Rainbow Kids is a Lawrence-based support group for elementary school LGBTQ+ students and their families. The organizers of this group include a middle school social worker and the director of the integrated crisis team at LMH. The group has the support of the school board and superintendent, but is not exclusive to USD 497 enrolled students. Helps students and families feel safe, welcome and supported in school.
Children's Mercy KC Gender Pathway Services, for gender-variant, gender-questioning and transgender children under 18yo. They help families be informed of treatment options, medical, emotional support, advocacy and community resources. Team is made up of a social worker, endocrinologist and psychologist. A new book that we are recommending, especially for those using hormone replacement therapy and their parents. Genderbound: An Odyssey from Female to male, by Calvin Payne-Taylor. It was written as a guide for his mother but will be useful to PFLAG parents of trans youth. Available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
